Do I need a full bladder for a growth scan?
For growth scans (third trimester), a full bladder is NOT required. The baby is large enough to be seen clearly. However, for an NT scan or early pregnancy scans (before 12 weeks), a moderately full bladder helps improve image quality. For anomaly scans (18–20 weeks), a full bladder is generally not needed.
What should I eat before my scan?
Most pregnancy scans don't require fasting. For an NT scan, have a light meal. Staying well-hydrated improves amniotic fluid levels and image clarity. For 3D/4D/5D scans, drink plenty of water (2–3 glasses) 30 minutes before your appointment.
How should I dress for the ultrasound?
Wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows easy access to your abdomen. A two-piece outfit (top and bottom) is more practical than a dress.
During the Scan
Scan-room policy (PC-PNDT Act): In line with PC-PNDT regulations, bystanders and accompanying persons are not permitted inside the ultrasound room during the scan. Dr. Mathew personally explains the findings and report to you after the examination.
Does an ultrasound scan hurt?
No, pregnancy ultrasounds are completely painless and use no radiation — only harmless sound waves. The transducer (probe) is gently moved over your abdomen with a water-based gel.
How long do the scans take?
- NT scan: usually takes 20–30 minutes including the consultation.
- TIFFA anomaly scan: takes 30–45 minutes, as the doctor examines all fetal organ systems systematically.
- 5D HD Live scan: typically takes 20–30 minutes.

When will I receive my scan report?
Reports are provided on the same day, immediately after the scan. Dr. Mathew personally discusses the findings with you.
What if something abnormal is found on my scan?
If any concern is identified, Dr. Mathew will explain the finding clearly, discuss its significance, and advise the appropriate next steps — which may include a repeat scan, additional testing, or referral. You are never left without guidance.
Can I get a digital copy of my ultrasound images?
Yes, digital images can be provided. 3D/4D/5D scans include printed photographs. Video recordings are available on request.
